The Heart of Our Ministry As Christians, we know the transforming work the Lord does. We have experienced it in our own lives and seen it in countless others. The people of the Philippines are remarkably open to the message of the Gospel, and we are here to minister it—not just in words, but in actions and deeds that demonstrate Christ's love in tangible ways. The next life to be transformed may be one of these precious children, and as God does His work through Daddy's Hands Ministries, we'll be sure to share those powerful stories with you.
The Four Gifts:
Pastor Mark's Approach When Pastor Mark ministers among the indigent families and children of the Philippines, he is always faithful to bring gifts of food, clothing, and toiletries. Candy and balloons are especially appreciated by the youngest recipients. But then comes the surprise—Pastor Mark tells them he wants gifts in return. The children are shocked. Of course, they are in no position to reciprocate, nor is that the intention. But shock quickly turns into eager pledges of acceptance once Pastor Mark presents his list of four simple gifts he asks from them:
1. Love Jesus This is the most important gift by far. It must come willingly from your heart; I cannot force it from you. I sincerely desire this from you above all else—that you would love Jesus with all your heart. This is the foundation of everything. When a child encounters the love of Christ and responds with their own love for Him, transformation begins from the inside out.
2. Work Hard at Everything You Do. In school, try your best. Study diligently. Pay attention to your teachers. If you make it to the honor list in your class, I will bring you extra special gifts! Work ethic is something that should be learned at a young age. When a child grasps the value of hard work and excellence, it carries over into adulthood and will undoubtedly reap significant rewards. A love for Jesus Christ, accompanied by a strong work ethi,c is a powerful combination that can unlock generational curses of poverty and open doors to a brighter future.
3. Brush Your Teeth Every Day Two to three times a day—morning, after meals, and before bed. Dental health is severely lacking in the Philippines. It is heartbreakingly common to see young children with several rotting or missing teeth, often causing pain and affecting their ability to eat properly. Pastor Mark brings each child a toothbrush and toothpaste, provides instruction on proper brushing technique, and reminds them that this daily habit is one of their gifts to give back. This simple practice can prevent painful cavities, build healthy habits, and boost their confidence with a bright smile.
4. Give Me a Big Hug Every Time I See You. This one is perhaps the easiest and most joyful to give! These hugs remind the children that they are loved, valued, and worth someone's time and affection. For many who have experienced neglect or abandonment, a hug can be a powerful reminder that they matter. And honestly? These hugs fill Pastor Mark's heart just as much as they bless the children.
More Than Charity—A Path to Transformation
This approach is about more than meeting immediate needs. It's about investing in the whole child; spiritually, academically, physically, and emotionally. It's about breaking cycles and building futures. It's about showing that God's love is both eternal and practical, both spiritual and tangible.
"In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven." — Matthew 5:16 (NIV)
As you can see, these gifts are really for them, not for me. Yes, I, Pastor Mark, do long to see lives transformed by Jesus Christ, and I know He does that in hearts surrendered to Him - in the lives of those who love Him. That is the gift I really want. That is what God wants.
